Robin seems to have a truly genuine frownsmile on her face, one that unselfconsciously comes from within. Her eyes are lively and amused, but she is holding back. She seems to be gazing at someone, and trying to empathize with whatever they are saying. She wants to show her support to whoever it is. Maybe she’s just bored though. The frownsmile REALLY comes out when people are bored.
So now YOU tell ME! What feeling provoked this f.s.?

You nailed it, k.l.! Now I’m afraid I’m going to become so obsessesed that I will cease to read papers and magazines for news and entertainment, but ONLY for the frown-smile. It’s a more common pheonomenon that we realize. It’s all around us, just waiting to be discovered. Keep ‘em comin!

Maybe she’s hiding her frustration at the fact that she’s surrounded by a bunch of middle-aged frat boys who are reliving their college days by trolling around the streets of New York wearing mardi-gras beads, musing to herself, “And I went to college for THIS?”
